Tiring week

We started sending Samuel to day care after his 2nd birthday. We drop him at the day care at 7:30am and pick him up around 6pm. Samuel was a good boy as he didn't cry for many days when we first started to send him to the day care. His适应能力蛮强的, thank God!

However, the only concern about sending our young ones to day care is they get sick very often. Samuel have been seeing doctor in weekly basis... He has not been feeling well since last week.

Everything started on Wednesday. Samuel's principal, Teacher Low called me in the morning about 11am. She said Samuel vomited that morning after milk and she suspected it was due to phlegm as he was coughing before he vomited. She said she would monitor him and call me again if there was anything. Then in the evening about 4pm, Samuel's teacher, Jessica called me again. She said Samuel vomited again. She asked us to bring him see doctor after school. David and I left office earlier that day. As we reached his nursery and about to bring him to our car, he vomited on David again. I was terrified when saw him threw out. It was just like the Merlion in S'pore.

We looked at the time and it was 5:30pm. The clinic was no open until 7pm. So we went home first. Samuel was hungry and he asked for food. So we tried to feed him some porridge. But he threw out before he finished the porridge. All, everything... We quickly rushed him to the clinic when the clock stroked 7. He threw out again in the car when we were on our way. Luckily we brought long a little pail, else David's car would be super smelly... Doctor said Samuel had stomach flu and a lot of "wind" in his stomach. He gave Samuel medicine to stop the vomiting and for the wind in his stomach. He asked us to give him food in small amount and try to give him probiotic. As Samuel could not eat or drink anything, include the medicine, so the doctor put the medicine to stop the vomit from Samuel's backside. He said we could try to feed him after 30mins.

When we reached home, Samuel said he wanted bread. He finished 1 slice of bread. Before he went to sleep, we gave him the medicine. Around 11pm, he asked for milk. Usually he has 6oz. But doc said just give him 2oz, but try give him more frequent. So I just gave him 2oz. Around 2am, he asked for milk again, but he vomited when he finished his milk. David and I had to wake up 2am to change our bed sheet. aaaa.... we were so worry and prayed that he would be fine by morning. Else he would need to be hospitalized.

Praised the Lord for Samuel stopped vomiting the next morning. David and I took 1 day leave to stay at home to take care of him. We were so happy to see him finished his porridge in the afternoon and he did not throw out.

Samuel having his water while listening to the music using his Daddy's ear phone.

Watching Daddy playing PS3...

At first we thought of let him stay at home for 2 days. But we had so much work to do in the office so we had no choice but sent him back to nursery on Friday and thank God he ate properly and no vomiting that day.

However, until today his appetite is still very poor. Maybe he scare he will vomit again so he refuses to eat. David and I have to think of all sort of tricks to make him eat. Pray that Samuel will recover soon and be a healthy boy.

Samuel's 2nd Birthday

Samuel celebrated his 2nd birthday yesterday (12 Nov). We had a small birthday party for him.
David and I invited our colleagues to join us for this simple but meaningful celebration.

Since it was Friday, both David and I took half day leave to come home earlier to do some final clean up and did some decoration before the event started about 6pm.

And here is the birthday cake. Got it from Summer Bakery. RM237 , weight 3kg.

Food was from Kasih Sayang Catering, who's serving halal food. The caterer was not very friendly and she kept forgetting what she had promised me. One thing that I must highlight over here was, she said she normally charged RM50 for setting up the table (actually just put skirting around the table) but she charged me RM30 only. This was what she told me when I first called her to enquire about the food. When I had decided to get the food from her, she said she wanna charged me RM50. I refused to gave her the extra RM20. Then she sound very unhappy. However, she still provided the food for us. When the food arrived, we were surprised to see the amount. They were so little. We ordered food for 25 people! So last minute we ordered pizza to top up. Luckily the food was enough. But we got good comment from the guests, that the food was nice. However, we will not get the food from her again in the future. Here is the cafe name, not recommended.

Thanks everyone for coming and making this celebration a memorable one. :)

Samuel first hair cut at the saloon

We used to cut Samuel's hair ourselves at home. But Samuel hates it. We always cut his hair before his bath. Whenever he sees us take the scissors and comb, he will start crying already. So, every time the hair cutting sessions will end with vomits, screaming and cryings... (-_-)"... And the "end product" is.... er.... "not very nice"... :p Like this photo below...

I can't remember when was the last time we cut his hair. But yesterday I just could not stand it anymore so I asked David to bring Samuel to the saloon and cut his hair. Maybe he would not cry when strangers cut his hair. So we brought him to a saloon near our house. I told him there would be pretty "jie jie" cutting your hair so you must not cry. Samuel nodded his said means ok. * wink *

To bad when we reached there, it was a "go go"... not "jie jie"... Samuel started to show me this "I don't like him" face and started making "complaining" sound... and.... he started crying. But, he didn't cry out loud, just soft and.... shy cry... as there were 3 jie jies over there watching him... hahaha... so maybe that was the reason he never cried or screamed like he used to do at home. I hold him in my arm when the stylist cut his hair. I gave Samuel 90 out of 100 marks for his "performance". Happy with him :)  No vomits! hahaha...

When the stylist turn off the cutter (is it the cutter? the electric one?), Samuel looked at me and said, "No more!" then he turned to the stylist and say " Bye bye!" Everyone laughed... He stopped crying immediately when done. aaa... Mummy little Samuel aaa.... Isn't he cute? So, this is how Samuel's hair looks now...

SAHM for 5 days

Mom went back to Kuching on 28 Sep. But MIL will only come over on 2 Oct. So I have to take 3 days leave to take care of Samuel myself at home.

We took half day leave to send mom to air port on 28 Sep. Samuel cried when he saw mom leaving. Mom was sad too... she kissed Samuel then walked to the departure hall... she never turned back to look at us. I knew she was crying already... Samuel cried all the way till we went down the stairs to ground floor where we headed to our car. In the car I asked him, where is grandma? He made this "baby cry" sound and frown. He didn't want me to talk about grandma. I called mom before she board the plane. Samuel took my phone and talked to mom in his baby language. He kept calling grandma. When I took the phone over, mom was sobbing. ah! I hate goodbyes!

After we went mom to the airport, we drove back to Butterworth and reached home about 6:30pm. I quickly fed Samuel dinner then we brought him to the pediatrician as he was coughing very badly since Monday. I got very stress when I saw all the medicine... Samuel hates to take medicine and I am really not good in giving medicine. 9 out of 10 times he will vomit. But my mom can do it very well. Samuel never throw up if it's my mom who give him medicine. Anyway, I managed to get Samuel to eat his medicine. He is better today. Thank God.

I am so glad that Samuel behaved very well these 3 days. I love spending time with him... yes... just he and me... :)

Samuel, 21 months

In laws went back to Kuching on 28 Aug and my Mom came over on the same day to take over the "duty" - baby sit Samuel for us. David and I both feel that it's the best to ask our family members to look after Samuel at home than sending him to baby sitter. We are really grateful to our parents for willing to sacrify their time and "freedom" to come over here in Penang- a totally new place for them with no friends around to take care of a naughty boy 8/5 a week.

When Samuel saw grandma first the first time after 2 months, he looked puzzled and kept staring at Mom when Mom calling him. He was searching in his "data bank" to recall this familiar face. Then he smiled at Mom. He remembered!! We asked him to call "nyie ma" (mean grandma in Foo Chaw - yup! We talk to Samuel in Foo Chaw dialect). He called "Ma"! hahaha.... Mom was so happy to hear that.

So sad that Samuel was in some kind of "transition period", just like last time when my in laws took over Samuel from my Mom. He didn't want to drink milk and eat. Mom was at home with Samuel alone. She could not cook, could no go to the washroom, and Samuel was like stick to her all the time. He follower her to everywhere she went. On the 3rd day, he fell sick with running nose and mild fever. I had to take 1 day emergency leave to stay at home to help mom. Thank God he is ok now. Hopefully tomorrow he will be a good boy and be nice to grandma at home when David and I working.

At the month of 21, Samuel now can say some simply sentences to express himself, like:
1. "Baba, car kak!" - mixture of English and Foo Chaw which means "Daddy, my car (toy) stuck *somewhere*"
2. "Mama, giang!"- giang in Foo Chaw means scare.
3. "Baba, night night... bye bye..." - usually say this to his Daddy before going to sleep.
4. "Mama, o o!" - saying this, pulling my hand and pointing to the bedroom which means he want to sleep already.
5. Saying "cai cai!" and pointing at the vege - means he wants to eat the vege. Samuel loves vegetable!
6. Rushing into the bathroom happily when he hears the tab water running and say "boom boom!" - yup! time to bath and he loves bathing too!

Samuel is a good boy... but only 1 thing that always give Daddy Mummy and everyone headache - eating habit! He has a very very bad eating habit! He doesn't want to sit on the high chair and eat... he needs to turn on the tv, sitting on Daddy's lap and eat. Or plays with his toy and eat... all these I think is not good for him and may affect his digestion. hai... I really need help on this. We can only get him sit on the high chair for 5 mins (the most) and he will stand up, asking you to carry him... *sign*

Apart from that, we also have problem cutting his finger and toe nails. He will scream to the top of his lungs, shaking his head, pad on his chest and say "pa pa" (means scare) when he saw the nail clipper. I never hurt him before when I cut his nails last time and as I remember, neither does my mom or anyone! So, we can only cut his nails when he is sleeping. Oh! one more thing! He hates it when we cut his hair. Same reaction as he sees the nail clipper, he will start crying and shaking his head when he sees the scissors! Ooooo.... God please help me!

Well, no matter how I still enjoy all the time I spent with my boy. I love my family... :)

Samuel is back in Penang!

I went back to work early this year and sent Samuel back to Kuching to be taken care by my mom. David and I had been traveling back to see him in Kuching in monthly basis. We had been praying for God's guidance on how to go about for this matter. As both of us need to work and we fell safer for Samuel to be taken care by either my mom or his mom. But we can't effort to fly so frequently. Air tickets aren't cheap. So we decided to ask his mom to come over to Penang to stay with us and help us to look after Samuel. Mother in law cannot stay here for long. So, after we discussed with my mom, she agreed to rotate with my Mother in law. Basically the schedule will be, MIL 3 months and my mom 3 months. Hope this will work.

Glad to have Samuel back in Penang and it feels good to see his smile everyday. I love you, Samuel!

Samuel, 18 months old

We went back to Kuching on 14 May... to see Samuel and to attend a friend's wedding.

As usual, we took the Friday night flight back, and reached home about 9 something and Samuel was still awake. Mom told him that we were going back to see him and when we reached home, we could see him standing at the window and waving his hands, like welcoming us back. haha... he is so cute!! As we stepped into the living room, I called him and he came right to me... I smelt his hair, his face, his ears... "Mummy misses you so much, Samuel!"

I was not feeling well when we went back this time, had flu and cough. I worried Samuel might get it too so I didn't get to hold him so frequent and didn't sleep with him at night... *sad* But Samuel had great time playing with Daddy... :)

Mom told me on the phone the other day that recently Samuel likes to see our wedding album. When he saw a picture of me he would point and said," Mama.." Sometimes, Mom would point and asked," Who is this?" And he would answer," Mama..." hahaha... I was so happy when I heard that.

We decided to bring Samuel over to stay with us in Penang in June. We have not get a baby sitter, so My mom will come over baby sit Samuel while David and I are working. Mom cannot be here in Penang for long, so my mother in law will take over after my mom go back to Kuching. Unfortunately, my MIL also cannot stay here in Penang for long. So, Mom and MIL will take turn to come over to Penang to baby sit Samuel for us, till we get a baby sitter for Samuel. Pray that we can find a loving, hygienic and responsible baby sitter for Samuel soon...

David and I are counting the days, can't wait to bring Samuel over! We are looking forwards for the days that we can kiss him every night and day, hold him in our arms all the time, hear him call Papa Mama...

Update from Mom

Mom called me in the office this afternoon....

Mom: Poor Samuel he actually knows everything, just that he doesn't know how to speak it out.
Me: What do you mean?
Mom: He saw Papa (my Dad) eating potato chips and he wanted to eat too. But I told Papa not to give him. He's too young for potato chips. Then you know what he did?
Me: aha... what?
Mom: He hold onto Papa's hand and brought him to me. I was sitting at the table and your Papa stand innocently in front of me with the "totally no idea what his grandson wanna do" look on his face. Then Samuel tapped on my leg, like wanted to tell me something. So I bend down and asked him what he want. He put one hand on my shoulder, looked into my eyes, then pointed to Papa, who was holding the chips on his hand. Actually he was pointing at the chips.
Me: hahahahaha.... *I can imagine how Samuel looked like when he did that*
Mom: *laughing out loud and trying her very best to stop laughing as she had not finished her story* Poor Samuel... he was trying to ask me to get the potato chips from Papa and gave him.
Me: Then did you give him?
Mom: Of course not.... I gave him a toy instead. hahaha...

I miss my little Samuel very much. Counting the days till our next trip back to see him again...

Samuel, 17 months old

We went back to see Samuel last week. This time we took 1 day leave. So instead of 2 days, we spent 3 days with Samuel. We took the Thursday night flight back and came back here on Sunday night. We didn't check in any luggage this time so we didn't spent much time in the airport when we landed. Samuel was still awake when we reached home. *Happy*

~Samuel, 17 months old~

When I reached home, I quickly took a bath, changed into clean clothes and rushed to upstairs to hug my baby boy. He was in the room, playing with Grandma (my mom). I opened the door and called him, "Samuel... Mummy's back!". He turned his head and smiled at me when he saw me... He's so sweet and cute. I held out my arms and said,"Come... Mummy bao bao!" He walked to me and hold onto my neck... ooo.... He smelt so gooooood. :) I miss him.... a lot....

We brough him to the mall the next day, together with Mom and my sister. Mom warned me not to let him wear his shoes. I didn't listen to her as I thought maybe when we got tired of carrying him, we could let him walk on his own. We didn't bring the stroller, so after we walked for about 15 minutes, we let Samuel to walk on his own. Gosh!! The moment I let his feet touched the ground, he was like got "turbo" or something on his feet, he started running here and there, and he's fast! I got shocked and chased after him like a mad woman... He screamed out loud when we grabbed on him. We tried to distract his attention by showing him some nice stuff like, toys, posters... and we succeed. haha... We didn't spend long time in the mall, but we had great time. :)

Apart from the mall, I also brought him together with me for a lunch date with my ex-colleagues. It was fun to meet all of them. Samuel kind of shy when he saw all of them (actually just 5 of them). hahaha....

The happiest thing of all was hearing Samuel called me "ma ma"... It has been so long since I last heard him call me "Ma Ma"... Mom called me the next day after we came back to Penang. She said Samuel was looking for me the night we flew back to Penang. He woke up in the middle of the night, and walked towards the window and called "Ma Ma".... My mom was so sad and she cried... She held on Samuel and said, "Samuel dear... Mama is working. She will come back to see you next month, ok?" He looked at my mom and blinked his eyes... then went back to sleep.

I cried when my mom told me this. My little baby knows... he knows who his mom is and he misses his mom... just like the way I miss him....

I started counting the days again... looking forward for our next trip back to Kuching...

Mummy little boy is growing up...

We flew back to Kuching to see Samuel last week. We reached Kuching around 9:30pm on Friday night and when we reached home, Samuel already fell asleep. David and I just stand there and looked at him quietly. David then went back to our house in Tiya Vista. Usually David will sleep there every time we go back. But I will just stay at my mom's house.

I thought I could only hug, kiss and play with Samuel the next morning. But he got up in the middle of the night! Luckily I had not sleep yet! Mom said normally he does not wake up in the middle of the night! hahaha... maybe he knew I was there... :) He looked happy when he saw me. He talked to me in his baby language, touched my face and hugged me. We played for a while and put him back to sleep around 11pm. He lied down beside me, really close to me. I said a prayer for him and we fell asleep....

Samuel is 16 months plus now. He can walk on his own, say simple words like go out walk walk, shoes, eat... but all in Foo Chaw... hahaha... Besides that, he can follow simple instruction too! Like, ask him to throw the used baby wipe into the dustbin, hand over the container cover, pick up the his story books or toys from the floor... haha... He is so cute...

Samuel can drink from straw already! Big thank you to my little sister, Christabel. She taught him for 2 days and he picked up the "skill" the 3rd day! hahaha...

Samuel has 8 teeth already, 4 more is coming out real soon. I could see his gum has swollen. Last time when he was still a baby, he would reject milk whenever he was teething. I think maybe he felt painful or something. But Samuel is a strong boy now. This little pain, no big deal la... :)

We only spent merely 2 days with Samuel. Like usual, David's younger brother would come to pick me up from my mom's house. This time was not the same as last time... Samuel cried out loud when he saw us getting into the car... I cried when I saw him crying and waving his hands, like calling for me. I felt so guilty leaving him behind. I called my mom when I reached the airport. Mom said he stopped crying already. But when she asked him, "Samuel, where is Daddy? Where is Mummy?" He would frown, and looked out to the car porch. Mom said he knows... he knows his Daddy and Mummy have gone to work.

Our next trip back will be on 16 April. Yup! We go back once every month. We miss our baby boy very much. However, we plan to bring him over in June. By then, we can see our little sunshine everyday!!

Seeing Samuel after 1 month

David and I went back to Kuching last week to see Samuel. It has been 1 month plus since we last saw him. We reached Kuching around 9pm on 15 Jan 2010. Samuel was still awake when I reached home and he was playing with his toys. I called him and walked nearer to him. He had this "who are you" look on his face and stared at me for a few second. Then he smiled at me. I could not control and tears just rolled down... I hugged him and kissed him. I missed him so much... But he pushed me away... He looked towards my mom... I carried him into my arms, but he stretched out his hands to my mom... He forgot who I was... I felt so sad...

But things got better the next day. I spent lots of time playing with him, talking to him, fed him, and bath him. I think he remembered who I was. He became very "stick" to me. haha... I was so glad! David and I asked Adrian to take family photo for us the second day. We had lots of fun! We started around 4pm, and we were glad that the weather was real nice that day as it had been raining non-stop in Kuching that week. We took the photos at home and a small play ground near by. Will post the photo once we got it from Faith. (*Faith, I can't wait to see those pics!)

We brought Samuel to see doctor on the 3rd day. He didn't want to drink milk and his appetite was real poor those few days. We found that his gum was a bit swollen and it was dark green color. Doctor said it was mild infection, maybe due to bacteria. We suspected so, as Samuel likes to put his finger in his mouth, maybe because he was teething and he felt uncomfortable. However, he is getting better now.

We flew back here on 18 Jan 2010. Felt really sad when leaving... and it was raining when we're on our way to airport. I cried again... But on the other hand, I was glad as Samuel is in good hand. I believe my mom will take good care of him. :)
*Mom, thank you.*

Our next trip back will be on 7 Feb 2010, for Chinese New Year. It's about 2 weeks from now. Looking forward to see Samuel... *muak! Samuel, Mummy loves you!*
